Hello! I’m Prof. Dr. Miguel Olivares Mendez, Head of the SpaceR group, LunaLab and Zero-G Lab at the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Security reliability and Trust (SnT) in the University of Luxembourg . I received the Eng. Degree in Computer Science from the University of Malaga in 2006, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Robotics and Automation from the Technical University of Madrid in 2009 and 2013 respectively. During my PhD I was visitor researcher on EPFL (Switzerland) and ARCAA-QUT (Australia). I was awarded with the 2013 Best Ph.D. Thesis award by the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technology (EUSFLAT). In May 2013 I joined the Interdisciplinary Center for Security Reliability and Trust (SnT) at the University of Luxembourg (Uni.Lu), as Associate Researcher in the Automation & Robotics Research Group. In December 2016 I became Research Scientist and main responsible of the research activities on mobiles robotics in the Automation & Robotics Research Group at the SnT - University of Luxembourg. In November 2019 I was appointed as a Assitant Professor on Space robotics and I am teaching Space Robotics 1 and 2 and Autonomous Space Systems in the Interdisciplinary Space Master of the Univeristy of Luxembourg. In January 2020 I founded the Space Robotics (SpaceR) research group. Since 2013 I have constructed three different robotics facilities at SnT - University of Luxembourg: 1) AeRoLab, a flight arena for aerial robotics; 2) LunaLab, a lunar analogue facility that emulate the visual apperance of the lunar surface; 3) Zero-G Lab, a facility that emulate orbital dynamics and operations using air-bearing pneumatic-robotic platforms and robotic arms monted in robotic rails. My main research interests are aerial, planetary and orbital robotics as well as robotic manipulators and multi-robot collaboration. I have been working and supervision PhD theses on autonomous navigation, perception for robotics, sensor fusion, vision-based control, soft-computing control techniques and robotics and automation.
